About our Club
The Onkaparinga Rugby Union Football Club is one of 13 Rugby clubs in South Australia and has been a successful breeding ground for Rugby players in the southern suburbs of Adelaide. Onkaparinga has produced a number of talented players through their junior program with a large number of players moving on to higher levels of the game interstate and overseas.
The Club was established in 1968 and moved to our present grounds on Wilfred Taylor Reserve in 1982. The club rooms are built on council property and boasts two rugby pitches as well as a children’s playground and a small basketball court all surrounded by natural park lands and a creek.
In 2009 the club underwent a substantial building extension which included a larger social function area, 2 extra change rooms, a commercial kitchen/canteen, gym and committee room at a cost of approximately $700 000. Only recently the ground lights were upgraded at a cost of $140 000. Onkaparinga is represented each week during the rugby season with three or four men's sides, a women’s side and six junior sides from under 7s through to under 18s. We have had terrific success over the years, rarely missing out on the finals. A very hard working junior committee has insured this club is the envy of other clubs. The club has frequently been presented with the Eastwood Trophy for the best junior club in the South Australian Rugby Union.
During the summer months, our club organises a Touch competition for mixed and open competitions. This enables budding rugby players of all ages to play in a social game without physical contact, helping to build fitness and competitiveness.
We are proud to have members and players from many countries enjoying “the game they play in heaven” and providing a fun and healthy environment for all.
